Released on the Verizon Wireless network the Samsung SCH-A890 is a real treat for the average camera mobile fan. Looking at this brilliantly designed phone the first thing that attracts attention is the external color screen which is capable of displaying 65,000 colors at 128 x 96 pixels. Flip it open and you are greeted with a brilliant TFT display that supports 2,62,000 colors at a resolution of 176 x 220 pixels.
The imaging is powered by a 1.3 mega pixel rotating digital camera which will allow you to capture moments at 1280 x 960 pixel resolutions. Send them off as messages, set them as wall papers or even transfer them to your printer to create sharp printed images. The rotating lens allows users to take pictures at varied angles including creating a self portrait by looking at the screen. The camera also supports other resolutions including 640 x 480 pixels, 320 x 240 pixels and 160 x 120 pixels.
Play around with your pictures by distorting or enhancing them using the abundant image filters that help you control brightness, color effects and file quality. Auto flash, zoom and self timer facilities allow you to visualize your mobile as a complete digital camera when required. The SCH-A890 also allows you to shoot video clips of up to 15 seconds link length. The video clips are encoded in 3GPP2 codec format.
From the entertainment point of view the mobile has lots to offer in terms of gaming which includes 3D games. The phone is released on the new EV-DO high speed network which makes it capable of playing streaming video and TV programs. But sadly enough the mobile does not support MP3 tunes. SCH-A890 also lets the user down in terms of storage. The mobile has 14MB of internal storage which is not expandable due to the lack of memory slots. But this memory should be just enough considering that the user will not store large MP3 files. The phone has some more downsides in terms of low battery life and a not so usable voice recognition function.
But given these facts the SCH-A890 is a sleek and stylish phone that has great imaging and multimedia abilities and takes advantage of high speed broadband data transfer. Certainly a camera mobile worth recommending.
